New mayor for Hillingdon council
Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Michael Markham, is representing the council at civic and ceremonial events this year. The Mayoress is Mrs Rosemary Markham.
The new Deputy Mayor is Cllr Allan Kauffman and The Deputy Mayoress is Mrs Lynne Kauffman.
About the Mayor
Councillor Michael Markham has represented the Ruislip Manor ward since 2006.
His Council committee work includes being Chairman of the Residents and Environmental Services Policy Overview Committee, Vice Chairman of the Pensions and Investment Strategy Committees and a member of the Planning Committee and the Standards Committee. He has also sat on the Adult Health and Social Services Policy Overview Committee.
He was Deputy Chief Whip from April 2009 to May 2011, when he became Deputy Mayor. He was elected Mayor of Hillingdon by Council Members in May 2012.
He has a particular interest in the arts and as the Council's representative has been a Vice President of the Hillingdon Arts Association since 2006. He also organises the Councillor led 'My Favourite Words' event held as part of the annual Hillingdon Arts Week.
Both he and his wife, Mrs Rosemary Markham, are members of the Ruislip Lions Club and, as such, play an active role in raising funds for local causes and charities. Mrs Markham has also been responsible for organising the annual Ruislip Lions outdoor theatre event for many years.
Councillor Markham has spent all his working life in public relations, advertising and marketing. In 1979 he established his own marketing consultancy where he is Chairman.
He is also Chairman of a continuing personal and professional development (CPD) certification body that he helped establish. Mrs Markham is the Executive Director at the same organisation where she is responsible for its administration and certification processes.
